my hole in the wall tank build

304 posts in this topic

Well i have decided to change the design of my tank to remove the central weir to one behind a false wall
ive also increased the front to back depth by 125mm

so new display tank size is 1550mm x 600mm x 580mm
so the display is about 550 litres with the weir and there is a 250l sump below it 800l in total

new tank

after a little issue with the holding tank i was lent I've lost around 400l of salt water so ro unit is on and Roy has kindly took some containers home to fill up from his ro unit
its just a waiting game until the water is up to temp to add all the salt then I've got to put all the stuff back in again

thanks

JUNE 26th 2014

well a little update

i have had a move round in the sump to allow me to put in a frag rack

its 300x400mm so it should be enough for me to leave my frags out of the way of the main display tank

6th September

i keep knocking bits off my corals and started putting them in the sump to allow them to grow bigger

but decided to add a second 60l tank to my system to let them grow for 6 months + then maybe put them up for swaps

i already have a light unit (but may upgrade this to a nano Razor)

i hot the tank made up for £75 from 12mm glass and by re routing the pump that feeds my u/v i have directed some of the flow up to the frag tank

ill leave it with nothing in it and no lights for a good few weeks incase i have a algea out break

jan 4th 2015

Well this weekend I got a full set of ro filters and also got a extre few bits

I got a auto shut off so it auto shuts off the water supply when it's not producing ro water. Also a float switch so my ro tank won't run dry if I forget to top it up

I've tried it with a cable tie for now until I'm happy it does what I want it to then I'll make a bracket

well as i had saved myself 150 by repairing my ph controller today

i decided to head over to aac in harlow (also had to drop off leaflets) and came home with this little guy

he believes it may be a hybrid of some kind due to the thingys around the shell that should not be there in this type of clam
